How To Build a Successful Career In 7 Steps

Building a Successful Career

Having a career can benefit you in so many ways, it can help to give you a purpose in life, as well as give you an opportunity to keep progressing and learning more throughout your life. When deciding on a career path it can be extremely difficult but by following these seven steps you can build a career that will be successful and that you will enjoy.

Step 1 – Identify Your Goals

In order to find the right career for you, then you need to get to know yourself. This means that you need to know what your specific career goals are in order for you to be able to achieve your dream job. For you to be truly satisfied in your professional life in the long term, there needs to be a connection between your desires and your goals. Identifying your goals can be difficult but it is quite detrimental in ensuring that your career will be successful.

Step 2 – Build A Professional Resume

A resume is a formal document that an applicant of a job would use to display their qualifications and reasons why they would be the right candidate for the job. Before you even begin your job search, it is vital that you have a professional, neat resume. This means that your resume will stand out to any potential employers.

Your resume should be honest and organized. You should include any experience you have working in the specific field you are interested in as employers will look for this. You should also include any references that you may have from previous employment.

Step 3 – Become Aware Of Your Strengths

You need to be very aware of your personal environment. This includes your inner thoughts, your desires, your strengths, and any disadvantages that you may have. You can use all of these things to your advantage. This means that you can use your desires to drive you towards success and use your strengths to get you there.

Being aware of your disadvantages means that you are aware of areas that you believe you can improve and learn about. Knowing your strengths can help you to choose a path on the career ladder that will be to your advantage, it could be something you’re good at as well as something that has areas where you can grow.

Step 4 – Take Full Responsibility For Your Life

There is a huge difference between people who have a mediocre career and a successful one. This is a lack of responsibility. Whenever something bad happens, you should try and find where you were responsible.

Think about any previous choices you have made that may have a correlation with the incident, think about if you being there had any impact on the incident. By taking responsibility for your actions and accepting blame, you are showing that you can remain calm and not take things too personally.

Step 5 – Always Raise Your Standards

Another significant factor of whether a career will be successful or unsuccessful is the fact that your standards have a strong influence on the way that you act, behave, and think. If you have low standards then you will never truly reach your full potential in a working environment. As well as this you will never be completely satisfied with your career.

It is recommended that every three months or so you should have some reflection time on your goals and standards and see where you can further yourself and eventually you will become the best possible version of yourself.

Step 6 – Brand Yourself

Now more than ever, branding is crucial. Personal branding is an intentional effort to influence the public perception of an individual. There are various different methods of doing this that can be extremely beneficial, one of these is through creating professional social media accounts, such as LinkedIn.

You can also keep a positive brand by creating a professional blog. One of the best ways to build your brand, however, is to ensure that you are good at what you do, which results in people spreading good information about you.

Step 7 – Network – A Lot

Networking means interacting with others to share information and develop professional contacts. This will help you to gain information that you may otherwise might not have known. As well as this you should offer up your skills and services to others to build connections with others and create long-lasting and profitable relationships.

Once again social media can be an excellent tool. LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook are the best choices when it comes to networking.

To conclude, building a successful career requires commitment, hard work, and patience. Getting out of your comfort zone and being courageous and committed will all lead you to a successful career.

Why Is Distance Learning Better Than Regular Courses ?

There are many pros and cons to both online education and traditional education. However, in this article we will discuss the reasons why there are more advantages of distance learning and online courses.

Save Money

One of the reasons why distance learning is better than regular courses is because of the amount of money you can save. You can receive the same quality of education for just a fraction of the price. This is typically because of the fact that the tutors of online courses aren’t in actual universities teaching. This means that their costs aren’t as high as university costs, as they don’t have to cover masses of land, property and staff bills. This is beneficial to you as they still offer the same exceptional courses without the hefty fees. This means that distance learning would be a lot more cost effective for the attendee. You also have the option of paying in an installment plan if you would prefer.

Learn at your own pace

Rather than having to try to keep up with the tutor in person, you can take your time during classes and you are able to go back after the end of the lesson to check for anything you may have missed. This means that there would be a lot less of a burden for you. You don’t have to worry about constantly taking notes and trying to pay attention at all times for a long period of time. You can keep your own pace and make sure you are comfortable and have a good understanding of what you’re learning about. Therefore, you are able to spend more of your time on classes that you find particularly difficult, as opposed to those where you are able to grasp and understand quicker.

Location benefits

One immense positive to distance learning is the location benefits. As a result of the fact that the classes are online, the students’ travel costs are exponentially lower than those travelling to and from college and university. With the reduced amount of travelling, not only does it benefit the student, but it also helps the environment by reducing the amount of pollution that would be produced from the travelling. You would also be able to save money on your property. As you wouldn’t be required to be living near or on university grounds, you will be able to find that real estate opportunities are much cheaper away from the actual university premises.

Choose the specific topics you are interested in

One thing that is a disadvantage of regular courses is that they are often very broad and include a lot of content that might not be very beneficial to you. When choosing which online courses you are interested in, they are usually a lot more specific so you wouldn’t need to spend time studying topics you have no real regard for. By choosing a topic that you are interested in, you are likely to be much more motivated and have more of an eagerness to learn. This will in turn benefit the overall outcome of your studies. As you have some enthusiasm for the course you are doing, you are also more likely to enjoy yourself and be less stressed.

Improved technical skills

During these times of the Coronavirus pandemic, more and more events and meetings are taking place online. By completing your education through online courses, you are also benefiting yourself by gaining essential technological skills and developing the way you can present yourself in a professional manner through online video calls. This will favour you when it comes to interviews as most employers are conducting interviews through video calls to reduce the transmission of Covid-19. Having experience with video calls will help you to be more relaxed and confident in any such interviews or meetings.

Time benefits

Another benefit of distance learning in comparison to regular courses is that you are able to manage your time to suit your schedule. This means that you are able to have a job whilst you are studying. As well as this you will have more time to yourself to take part in any hobbies and interests you may have. This will be very beneficial to your mental health and overall lifestyle. The less stress you are experiencing outside of learning, the better you will typically be able to do in your work.

To conclude

In conclusion, distance learning is better than regular courses because of the fact that not only will you be receiving a high quality learning experience, you will also have lots of time for yourself. Not only this, but also it is a lot cheaper for you and much better for the environment as a result of less travelling.

How Do Distance Learning Systems Work?

Distance learning works by using any device that can connect to the internet with a screen, typically a smartphone, tablet, computer etc. The purpose for this is to allow students to study from home, or wherever at any given time they wish rather than attending on campus. It allows students to take courses in other countries. It’s fitting for those who wish to have it flex around their work schedule.

Distance Education – How It Works

A degree within online education that comes from a reputable source can carry just as much weight in an interview as a standard traditional on campus degree. Understanding the details of distance learning and how it functions, we can aid your decision to take the appropriate course for you through this article.

Distance Learning Courses – How Is It Done?

Teach and learning have similarities online compared to traditional, it’s more of the setting that changes.

For some context; in the 19th century, online courses were actually done through ‘snail mail’ the teacher would send them (so technically not online). Given the technology now, it’s obvious to think that it is all done digitally and you would be correct. Every online learning intuition includes;

  • An e-learning dashboard that offers easy user navigation to the learning materials
  • Optimisation of various devices, mobile, tablet etc
  • Support teach notes via this platform
  • Be able to embed videos for the students learning experience
  • Have the eligibility to chat with other students real time
  • Real-time updated polls during lectures for rapid feedback

Wherever you go for online learning,  ensuring that the institution has these listed is reassuring. The teaching methods have to be as efficient as possible for your remote workflow.

Study & Teaching Methods – What’s The Difference?

Like said before, the teaching methods used in traditional and online learning are very similar – they use the same building blocks as do colleges, schools or universities.

Live chat or by email will be the most common way of communication, but a secure online portal will be handed to you. On here you will find;

  • Academic course material, guides and lectures all in done via internet connection
  • Live or previously recorded lectures by the course tutors
  • Virtual seminars directed by tutors that allows them to interact with students real-time
  • Access to third party – perfect for video and audio materials to allow you to study on mobile, or on the go

To summarise, modern universities that offer learning via an internet connection, offer the same workload but are differently designed to make your studies as flexible as possible.

Distance Education – A Popular Choice?

Online learning and education as a whole is becoming more increasingly popular, COVID-19 has definitely been a helping hand within this.

A study taken out by Universities UK conveys that online education makes up for a total of 8% of all British Higher Education

University UK also presents that 16 percent of online students that entered with no qualifications behind them, 83% were 25 years or over with the most popular course being both business and social studies.

It is worth to note that the number of international students is increasing massively – an example would be since 2011, US students studying online in the UK have increased by 26%!

If you choose an online course, make sure it is a reputable source, put some research in the course material and what you’ll be learning. After that, we would recommend studying digitally, especially if you have a schedule that isn’t so friendly.

Is It Worth Investing Money In Online Courses?

A commonly asked question we receive is whether or not online courses are worth the monetary investment, so we wrote this article to answer this, especially since it takes more than one variable to determine so.

A better way to look at this is; what are the reasons to invest in distance education, and what specifically do the courses offer.

Reasons To Invest In Distance Education

There are plenty of reasons to invest in this type of education, which is why we brought the top and most common reasons that persuade people into doing so.

A lot of students that take distance learning adore the fact that they can study and learn at their own pace. You get to design your own schedule for your learning, however, this is only ever dismissed if there is a deadline involved.

Access Anywhere

Secondly, you can access your learning resources anywhere and on the go, so long as you have an internet connection. This means you are able to study whilst on vacation as you sit on the beach sipping a cocktail, couldn’t be better.

Find The Materials Easily

Another positive to studying online is that all the materials are in one place, usually on their student portal. You are able to go back to previous resources with ease and not worry about losing any of them. You are also able to save resources, allowing you permanent access to these files once the course is completed and for future reference.

As with most online education systems, the materials are updated consistently, so you won’t need to worry about studying the wrong material.

Language Translation

Almost all online courses offer a free language translation for people that struggle to speak a certain language. This means if you wish to study a course and struggle to read English, you will be able to translate the text to your native language.

Increased Retention

The biggest reason why people believe it’s not worth investing in online learning is that you will find yourself easily distracted, whilst this is true, many studies have been conducted out and have come to the conclusion that if you choose when you wish to study, your retention is significantly higher than the traditional classroom setting.

Save Time, Save Money

If you are a student that works jobs or have other matters to attend to, restricting their free-time significantly, you will be glad to hear that online education allows you to manage your priorities better. Distance learning saves you time in the long term by removing the;

  • Excess fluff in lessons,
  • Need to travel
  • Need to dress appropriately for you lesson.

Whilst this doesn’t seem like much, you will save hours a week, meaning you can prioritise these hours elsewhere to things of more importance. Furthermore, it will save you money, especially on travelling and having more time to put towards earning an income.

What Are The Current Flaws With Online Learning?

With the current world climate and the virus that’s ravaging the world, it’s no surprise to see the pause of traditional classroom learning and the new way of learning, online education. The online way of learning has sparked many conversations about classes online and whether it can beat the traditional face to face learning.

E-Learning & Its Flaws

We at Oxford Learning College Reviews pride ourself with the online learning environment, but to do so, we can acknowledge the flaws and work on them. In this article, we are going to go in depth on the flaws with online courses and education.

Technical Difficulties

The main concern with online course materials is the amount of technical faults and issues that may occur. If you use technology, whether you have computer literacy or not, you are aware that the chances of an issue occurring is high. Therefore for those that don’t have computer literacy as a skill may struggle to attend lessons.

Harder To Focus

Whilst an advantage to online learning is time management, many have discussed their thoughts on focusing during lessons. Procrastination is more prevalent amongst students studying through online education, however, there is a work around to this.

It is known that students struggle to focus more at home, most likely because they’re in their ‘comfort’ zone rather than ‘working’ zone. The best way to manage this is to designate an area in your home for ‘working’. After adapting, this should function well.

Internet Connection

Even though there are many of us that have internet connection and seem like a universal thing everyone has, some don’t or have poor internet connection. This means, especially during this unprecedented time, online learning may prove to be too much of a challenge for those that lack the needed resources for online education.

Health Hazards

For those that are young and studying (7 and under) will need appropriate support to help stop their developing eyes from being damaged at the amount of time they spend on a screen. For these kids, it’s proven that screen time can affect their future eyesight.

Feeling Of Isolation

It is proven that students learn more when surrounded by their peers, however online students have a tendency to feel more isolated, thus affecting their learning.

This is why, especially in this climate, education centres need to reach out to their fellow students in support of their studies, offering support material if need be. Simply sending an email, message or asking to have a one to one virtual meetup session will help ease this isolation anxiety.

Teacher Training

For those that are studying now, you may have noticed that your tutors online don’t come across as the most computer literate. Even though this isn’t the case on a frequent basis, a lot of tutors don’t even have the correct resources for their lessons at times.

Thankfully we pride ourselves in meeting all of these requirements at Oxford Learning College Reviews. We specifically invest in up to date tutor training, reach out to our students on a frequent basis, support those with focusing issues whilst also dealing with technical faults quickly and efficiently to provide the best possible education we can.

How Can Parents Best Help Kids With Online Learning?

Have your children begun their online classes? Online learning massively sprang into the picture after the COVID-19 pandemic was first announced.

Since it was spread through contact, most businesses, schools, and entities sent their people to work and learn from home. For children, the shift to online learning can be a little challenging. You should not have to worry. Here are some of the best ways to help your children get the most from remote learning.

1. Supervise Their Class Time Activities

Parents need to check what their children are doing during the allocated class time. Depending on their age, they may need more assistance and a push. Kids in the elementary-school level may have a problem concentrating for long hours. Additionally, they may be vulnerable to forgetting their passwords and login details.

As such, you need to be there as the classes begin and when they break. High-school students and other seniors may need supervision for different reasons. They are tech-savvy at this age, and it can be a little overwhelming if their concentration shifts for a moment.

Get them to connect on their class’s online session and supervise them.

2. Set a Schedule With The Kids

Working with a schedule makes everyone comfortable and more productive. Depending on the age of your children, you can consult them when developing the schedule. They will incorporate their studies and leisure into daily schedules.

For the young kids, you need to set a schedule with concise expectations. In order to motivate them, you should include sessions such as snack breaks and post them on the fridge with colourful sticky notes. They are easy to follow. You can also use alarms to help them know when a session ends and when another begins.

3. Incorporate Play

During regular school sessions, children have short breaks where they play with each other. While at home, you also need to incorporate playtime. You can have a few play items, either indoors or outdoors.

During playtime, you can allow them to play video games with friends, chat with each other, or play outside. When developing these play-activities, you can ask them what they do for fun at school and develop something similar.

4. Get a Tutor

While you may want to be there with the children during their online learning, it can be a little challenging, especially when you have other errands to run. Do not be afraid to get a tutor to help your children with their assignments, quizzes, and tests.

The tutor can offer online or physical services. A physical tutor provides professional and individual attention to your children so that your child does not fall behind the wagon of online learning. If they call you in for parental reinforcements, you need to be available.

5. Get Recommendations From Other Parents

There is no better way than getting information from other parents who are new to online learning. You can read their comments on the Oxford Learning College Reviews and know what they think of the online programs. It also contains resourceful insights on how to help children quickly adapt to online learning and get the most out of the experience.

Online learning does not have to be complicated. The best thing is that it gets better with time. To assess the progress; you can have sessions with your children and know the milestones you are making.

Is Distance Education Or Regular Education Better?

To say our times have changed is an understatement. With our incredibly fast increase in technology development and how much technology is the backbone of our society, it is no surprise that we use technology to learn. The internet has changed many people’s lives from work to free time.

Which Is Better – Distance Or Regular Education?

With the ability to learn something new with a single click, it is no surprise that there is a debate whether distance learning courses are better than regular online learning.

Unprecedented Times

It is no surprise that online education has been on the rise due to these unprecedented times. The COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Pandemic has made online course materials the go to thing as people are trying to avoid face to face. From this, it has made many realise how convenient having study material online is.

Distance education is convenient because you do not have to be present at the education centre. Through videos, media and text are all conducted online, even exams can be done online, meaning, you can be anywhere in the world and still study the same course.

Don’t get us wrong, the traditional classroom settings have remained one of the best methods of teaching for many years, even during this scary time. Colleges, schools and universities offer face to face lessons still, but with restrictions, limiting social interaction.

Online Education V Regular Education

Education is the foundation of our society, allowing for bright futures to strive for.

The world is a different place compared to previous years. People once chose a single profession and stuck with it for the rest of their livelihood, however, nowadays, adaptation is crucial and professions may change as time progresses, and in some cases two professions at once. People have to have a wide range of skills under their belt to compete in today’s day and age.

Sadly, this links to the heading as traditional settings were not made for people who wished to have more than one profession whilst distance education is.

Flexibility allows online education to be studied at any time the student chooses. The freedom of choosing when to study allows them to work the education around work or any other aspects of life, allowing convenience for the student.

Access To Wide Range Of Courses

One of the greatest advantages that favour online education is the choice of course you get to choose from. In the standard system, you would usually have to study a specific course. Traditional courses were not designed for the student’s needs, but online education has allowed learners to branch their skills out on many branches.

Saving Money On Transport

Obviously, distance education is online, so you do not have to travel to a location and as you can see this not only means you save time, it also means you save a lot of money over time.

Lower Course Costs

Courses for online materis cost much lower than the traditional method, on top of the fact that you can access your material whenever you wish, even once the course ends.

Chances Of Distraction

One of the negatives to online education is the possibility of distraction. Learning from home allows many things surrounding you that will distract you from your studying time.

Validity Of a Degree

Sometimes when competing for a job, the credibility of your online degree can become questionable. It’s better to check the reviews of the course before studying as it’s recommended that you choose courses that have legitimate awarding bodies.

Social Interaction

The biggest reason online learning can never replace schools is social interaction. For learning purposes, online learning is fine, however, you cannot meet friends when doing an online course.

Why Distance Learning Is Perfect During a Pandemic

With the world facing a dilemma and over 1.2 billion students out of classrooms due to school closures across the globe, many have turned to high quality online learning platforms for their education.

This is understandably so, as during this pandemic, social contact must be limited to reduce the spread COVID-19 (Coronavirus), so the best, and arguably only possibility is digital learning.

In this article, we at Oxford Learning College Reviews will give you a list of reasons on how and why Distance Learning is the perfect option during the COVID-19 Outbreak.

Distance Learning During a Pandemic

Online student learning is extremely effective online because of many factors that come into it, here is a list of the best reasons why distance learning is an effective option of study.

Student Retention

25% – 60% of students retain more learning material compared to the traditional classroom setting at 8% – 10%. The main reason for this is because students can learn at their own pace, allowing them to take in the material when they choose to.

It is proven because students in a traditional classroom setting struggle to keep up with what’s being said. On top of this, kids are more distracted in a normal classroom. To be able to get the full benefit of online learning, you need to be fully interested in the class.

Post-Pandemic Innovation Steps

If you look at the post-pandemic SARS, a lot of world events and huge innovation steps happened. This is because it has been made clear from SARS that the importance of knowledge across the whole of society play a huge role in allowing us to explore our full potential.

Reduced Costs

On a debatable standpoint, there are students out there who are paying full fees for their course even though they’re now currently online, however, distance learning courses are much more cost effective.

Costs of the tuition fees themselves are cheaper, but you also do not have to pay for accommodation, saving you a lot of money for your student life.

Going back to a previous point, students who are a part of an online learning experience programme can choose when they want to learn. To a lot of people, this sounds like a bad idea, but for those that take the course for their passion allows them to learn when they wish and go at their own pace too.

This has had a great success for distance learning qualification success rate because students are more interested when they choose, rather than be scheduled.

A lot of face-to-face courses nowadays upload their material onto their own learning platform, however every online course has their material stored safely online, ready to be used whenever, even when they’ve finished the course! This way, they can look back whenever they wish to re-learn something they may have missed or forgotten.

Networking Opportunities & Building Industry Contacts

Online education gives the students an opportunity to work with some of the industry best and even speak to them. Because of this, it could be across the nation, or even across the globe, but the opportunity will still be there. This can lead to different opportunities or networks within the industry that gets the students interested and at the sametime, fitting them into a suitable environment.

From this, attending students can build contacts within the industry for their future in potential collaborations or even future work.

The Bottom Line

The bottom line is that distance learning was looking more promising than ever before up until this latest pandemic outbreak. Many students have decided to attend online classes to earn their degree which is amazing to see and we wish all of those students good luck on their futures.

Distance education only needs one consideration, and that is: ‘Are you passionate enough?’. If you can answer this question with a simple answer, the online degree is made for you.

How Does Attendance In Distance Education Work?

How Does Attendance In Distance Education Work?
How Does Attendance In Distance Education Work?

Over the past few years, distance learning has been widely spoken about as the new method that anyone (students and parents) can attend to achieve an impressive degree.

Especially surrounding this unprecedented time of the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Pandemic, remote learning has been used by many this school year, even the ones who originally attended face to face and high school lessons.

The Challenge Of Tracking Attendance

The department of education has also highly recommended that students participate in online learning platforms if their school district is in a high risk area. With its many benefits of choosing when you learn and how you learn, tracking attendance is a confusing topic for many.

How Attendance Is Monitored

Attendance is a data framework built to monitor students that are attending lectures, in this instance, virtual lectures. Having multiple absences instances, or more than 10%, the learning institution can alert tutors to notify the students and families involved.

As a learning institution (a university, school, college etc.) has to ask themselves these questions as a reference to attendance:

  • Can we reach out to the students and families?
  • Are we ensuring all of our students and families have digital access and competency?
  • Are we establishing an effective and strong relationship with the student and families?
  • Are students participating in the scheduled learning environment?

If one of these questions cannot be answered the right way, then it’s much easier to diagnose the problem and see where they’re going wrong.

How Attendance Is Tracked

The simple act of a student showing up to school was a means of a present attendance. So in this case, what would be the equivalent to turning up on an online lecture? Is it logging on to a remote portal, interacting with a teacher one-to-one, or using a special temporary code?

Each learning institution deals with this in their own right, but a fair handful of universities are going down the temporary code route.

The code is handed to the tutors before the lesson starts, in which they will give it to all of the students at the beginning of the lesson. Following this, the students must log into the learning portal, navigate to attendance and import the code there to register their attendance. As you can imagine, there are loopholes as they can import their code and do something else instead of taking part in the lecture.

It’s worth mentioning that no matter what system you use to register attendance for distant learning, there will always be a way for students to register and not be involved in the lesson. For higher education systems, it’s much easier to add consequences for doing so, but that’s more up to the student since they’re the one wanting to take the course.

There are other methods, such as doing a standard register via portal, or the traditional method of calling out names before the lesson start and tick them off on a register.

The Pandemic’s Effect

The pandemic has made many learning institutions realise that they lacked contact-information for their students and families. It is recorded that in some cases, many institutions realised that they had contact details that were outdated, or families that had suddenly moved because of lost jobs or health concerns.

On top of this, it is estimated that over 9 million U.S students do not have proper access to learning platforms to access the learning material. These trends get worse in communities in rural and low income areas where about 11 million do not have access to a computer.

COVID-19 is making it harder to learn nowadays, leaving many students in the dark and nothing to learn. It’s worse than people think and it’s important that every learning institution can provide students with learning material, or access to learning platforms online. Whilst online education is the future, society has not advanced enough for every student to study away from their typical learning area.

Marking attendance through distant courses is not much different to how you would expect, however in some circumstances, depending on the institution, there will be other methods.
